๐Ÿผ Nursery Reveal ๐Ÿผ

Today, my husband and I celebrate our 13 year wedding anniversary! We actually got married at the courthouse about 6 months prior to our wedding so we always have a little debate on whether this is considered an anniversary. I like to recognize both the wedding and marriage ...so happy anniversary to us!

Do you have funny recurring inside jokes with your fam? Those feel like home.

Speaking of home... onto the reveal!

The Nursery - the first room we finished! Inspired by Keanu's name, which means "cool breeze", and his sign, Pisces, The Nursery incorporates art, furniture, and color that evokes nature, specifically the water element.

I truly am enamored with the color we chose, Permafrost. The baby blue hue feels luminescent, a big change from the listless grey walls that stifled the house before we bought it. The tone feels like a cool breeze itself! Here's a short video I posted to TikTok @allison.of.altamo

When I decorated Cristiano's nursery, we went with a celestial vibe. The carved crescent moon wall shelf and light up constellation map are hand-me-downs from big brother! Another recycled piece is our crib. You may remember it from the sneak peek I shared as part of my paint colors post. I really like the simple shape and the angle of the legs - it feels special to use it for baby #2.

Another piece we reused is an oversized media chest. We transformed it into a changing table by adding a big Moses basket on top. A matching smaller basket keeps diapers, wipes, warmer and other baby booty supplies handy.

During the day the room gets plenty of natural sunlight and has a great view of the front yard's giant oak trees. The front windows of the home are unique - they slide open to the side rather than opening up. I hung oversized floor to ceiling blackout curtains in bright white to give the illusion of larger windows and block light until we’re ready for baby to get out of bed in the morning. I added big wood letters over the window because I just love my kid’s name so much!

I curated the space with some of my favorite art selections from The Phillips Family Permanent Collection:

  • a triptych print of Hokusai’s The Great Wave,
  • a panoramic, custom framed print of Monet’s Waterlilies we collected from L’Orangerie in Paris
  • a metallic antique map Todd rescued and restored with an artisanal framer in New York City

It makes me so happy to collect art from places and artists that we love. Art is the home's jewelry - it completes the look!

I also love collecting furniture and I got to use two of my favorite accent tables for this room: a restored pedestal table with a decoupage octopus and a mother of pearl mosaic drum table. Books from friends are scattered across for bedtime stories with the boys. I love the warm glow of the salt lamp during late night feeding sessions.

I really wanted to paint the ceiling of the room but have not yet since we have (gasp!) popcorn ceilings. Having that removed is definitely on my list. A fun fact about the Nursery: it is the one room of the house that features crown moulding! I really like it so have also added that to my renovation wishlist. Projects are piling up but we are here for it!

I hope you enjoyed this sweet tour of the room I spend most of my time in since welcoming Keanu to the world. I really find it to be calm and serene which is what I was hoping to create for my babe.
