🎨 New Home Paint Colors 🎨

Choosing paint colors can be overwhelming. Luckily, I watched A LOT of home design TV and figured out how the pros choose great combinations. The key? Keep calm and take your time with swatches!

All of the colors we picked came after we narrowed down from dozens of paint samples, taped up on different walls, looking at them at different times of day and with different lighting. Some of the colors we ultimately chose were a striking departure from the inspiration that first led us to try them. Now that the interior paint is (almost) complete, I am SO happy we took our time because we are SO happy with the results! There is nothing like a fresh coat of paint to transform a space. Not only has the new paint uplifted the feel of the home, it makes the rooms feel super clean, as if brand new again.

Bedroom paint colors were the first we chose for our recently-purchased home in Altamonte Springs, FL. We decided not to remove the carpeting from the bedrooms since it was perfectly neutral, low-pile so easy to shampoo and because we prefer the soft underfoot feel right when getting out of bed. Since the existing floors remained in these rooms, we picked those colors first.

We are expecting a new baby boy in March so his room has been my initial focus for this renovation. I was inspired by a bedroom I saw Jenn Todryk design on her TV show, No Demo Reno (Fresh Start - Season 3, Episode 7). All of the colors for that project are really beautiful, especially the color chosen for the client's main bedroom - a soft, ocean blue called Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams.

This color inspired us to choose Permafrost by Behr in Satin for the nursery. I wanted the room to feel luminescent while being very durable and washable, so I decided on a slightly glossier satin finish for this icy sky blue paint.  For the rest of the interior paint, I selected eggshell finish for a softer look, plus some flat for ceilings. Here's a look at the paint with the daylight helping it to really shine: Permafrost video.

Glidden Frosty Pine in Eggshell is the hue we chose for our bedroom. For this sanctuary space, I was drawn to green colors in the sage family. I want the whole room to feel spa-like. There is also a set of brass frame mirrored closet doors that I thought would play nicely with a natural green tone, reminiscent of the mossy trees throughout the property.

This green does have a bit of a grey undertone and also reads a bit olive, but doesn't feel oppressive like the medium grey the walls were when we bought the house. I plan to add more brass features through bedside sconces, specialty wall plates and decorative items. The room is still not camera ready as we are also renovating the en-suite bathroom, but I'm looking forward to adding furniture and styling the room in the coming weeks.

Since this space is quite dark the swatch that felt best in the room was a lot lighter than the colors I gravitated to in the store. This really showed me why taking time with samples where you are painting is incredibly important. Many of the greens I considered ended up looking way too grey and much too heavy once I tested them in the room.

I am drawn to cool paint colors as I feel they give my home a calming, serene vibe. As a complete departure from my preferred hues, our five-year-old wants to decorate his room red. I had been contemplating possible wall paint and thought a muted barn red might be nice. The red swatch we were collectively most drawn to: Behr No More Drama

I do really like how this color looks when juxtaposed with white and grey, the colors of the furniture in Cristiano's future room. Ultimately, we decided to paint his room Behr's Ultra Pure White, which we used throughout much of the rest of the home, with the thought that we will use red on key accent pieces like his desk and when hanging wall decor. Keeping the walls white will help the red to pop in key placements.

The color I am MOST excited for is HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams in Naval which we used as a complementary color throughout the rest of the home's main living spaces including in the kitchen, living room, dining room, playroom, laundry room and shared bathroom. I was also excited to discover that Jenn Todryk utilized this paint color for a design in No Demo Reno, Organic Coastal (Season 3, Episode 10).

Naval is a surprise choice as I was seriously considering painting some walls black. I was inspired by Alexandra Levy Interiors who does a lot of beautiful work with black paint. Once I got the swatches in the rooms, however, it just didn't feel like the right move for our home.

This deep navy blue feels so crisp next to white and, even though it adds major drama, still feels neutral. The vinyl flooring that was just installed also sets off this color nicely. The paint helped to freshen up the look of older cabinetry in the kitchen that isn't quite white anymore. I especially like how the playroom is shaping up, which features a white sliding barn door with black hardware. We love the combination of natural wood tones with black metal against navy and white paint. Our natural wood and black metal dining table and chairs will fit perfectly here and I plan to add more black metal elements through picture frames and kitchen hardware.

Next up, we are starting exterior paint and continuing the en-suite bathroom renovation. It will be my first wallpaper project so you don't want to miss the download! More pictures to come soon (the place is still a bit of a disaster at the moment).
